Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan

The Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan is a short-barrel, big-bore revolver. The firearm, which was introduced in 2005, has a 2.5 in (64 mm) barrel, brushed stainless finish, and an oversized Hogue Tamer grip designed to help reduce recoil. The Alaskan is offered in .454 Casull/.45 Colt, .480 Ruger, and most recently, .44 Magnum/.44 Special. The 480 Ruger version was originally a 6-shot revolver like the .454, but was discontinued in 2007. It was reintroduced in 2008 with a 5-shot cylinder. The 44 Magnum features a fluted cylinder while the .454 and .480 versions are unfluted.

The revolver is intended for use as a self-defense option against large, potentially dangerous animals such as grizzly bear, cougar, and wild boar. It is also usable as a potent self-defense tool against human attackers, with proper ammunition selection. Some critics feel the Alaskan's barrel is too short for such a large caliber revolver, while others believe its relatively compact size, coupled with big game stopping power, makes it a practical "pack gun" for hiking, fishing, or hunting trips in the wilderness. The large magnum cartridges do suffer ballistically from the short barrel, but still produce considerably more energy than is typically available from a compact firearm.

The Alaskan is descended from the Super Redhawk line of double action magnum revolvers made by Sturm, Ruger beginning in 1987.

Belgian Pin-fire Revolver

An anonymous Belgian revolver, the only identification on it is the Liege proofing marks. This is a large open-framed weapon in the caliber, firing a hefty 14.5mm pin-fire cartridge.

The revolver is a six-shot open-framed design, which was loaded via a hinged gate on the right side of the frame, through which empty cartridges were also ejected via an ejector rod running along the barrel.

It is robust made, with a decorative pattern engraved on the cylinder and frame. The butt has been checkered with wooden grips and comes with a lanyard ring.

The other variants were a 12mm and 11.45mm caliber handguns. These revolvers were also called Lefaucheux M1858. These variants were France originated variants.

Models were also purchased by Spain, Sweden, Italy, Russia, and Norway. Along with those countries, both the U.S. Confederate and Federal forces also used them in the American Civil War.

This blog is made in dedication to handguns and only handguns. If you are a person who could chose a pistol or a Handgun over any other type of firearm, you are at the right place.

Allen & Thurber Single-Shot Pistol.

This odd-looking single-shot pistol is one of the batch of the three hundred manufactured by Allen & Thurber, one of the companies in which Ethan Allen(1806-1871)was involved.

These were the first of all the mass produced pistols out there so to speak. The company was also the among the first companies ever to mass produce firearms that could be fired using a single hand.

These pistols were produced in the late 1840s and early 1850s. They were intended for competition use, for which they were fitted with an adjustable rear sight. The cast steel barrel is threaded and detachable at the breech. Its octagonal part marked the company's name.
